Measures for Faulty Uploads and Performance Improvements

23.10.2023

Dear customers,

The wait is over: Our long-awaited new storage servers, for which we had waited over a month, have finally been delivered.

The problems with faulty uploads will soon be a thing of the past.

Although we had hoped that the adjustments made to our storage policy earlier this year would help stabilize the system, unfortunately, no lasting effect was observed.

For this reason, we promptly took further measures to effectively resolve the emerging issues.

Additionally, several of our older servers have shown significant signs of wear over the years. In the past 30 days, this has led to the following limitations:

  • Incomplete file uploads for some users
  • Slowed or limited download speeds due to outdated hardware

If you continue to experience similar issues in the coming weeks, please contact our support team directly. We will address your concerns as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your patience and your trust.

Important Update: Changes to Our Storage Policy

05.08.2023

In recent months, there has been an increase in the abusive use of our storage servers by third-party providers. They were using our infrastructure as so-called "cold storage" — for long-term, passive file storage. This practice creates unnecessary strain on our systems and negatively impacts our active affiliate users who rely on the service for monetization. As a result, we saw a rise in broken file uploads that provide no value.

To continue offering reliable storage to our active partners, it has become necessary to manage available resources more selectively. Particularly, mass uploads without activity in the affiliate program are leading to infrastructure overload.

What exactly is changing?

Effective immediately, the previous option of unlimited storage space will no longer be available:

  • Registered users now receive 5 TB of storage – with the same file expiration as before.
  • Premium customers will now have 100 TB of storage – also with unchanged file expiration.
  • Active affiliate users will continue to enjoy unlimited storage without file deletion.

The classification as an "active affiliate user" is determined by our system. We reserve the right to adjust this definition if necessary.

If you are affected by this change or have questions, feel free to contact us via our support channels.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Important Announcement: Adjustment of PPD Compensation

21.03.2023

Dear affiliate users of DDownload,

Due to current economic developments, we must inform you that the Pay-Per-Download (PPD) compensation will be significantly reduced as of March 31, 2023. Future payout tables will be more closely aligned with industry standards of our competitors.

It is also possible that the PPD model may be completely discontinued in the future, as we no longer consider it a sustainable compensation model in today's environment.

In recent months, it has become clear that this business model is no longer economically viable. Server costs have nearly doubled in the past six months, and we are seeing increasing issues with our customers' payment models. To ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, this decision is necessary.

Please be assured that it was never our intention to neglect the interests of our affiliate partners. We have always strived to communicate all developments openly and transparently.

We understand that this change may not be well received by everyone and may lead to a decision to discontinue collaboration – we of course respect that choice.

There will continue to be no advertising on our platform to compensate for the PPD model. Given the widespread use of ad blockers today, we see no value in going down that path.

This decision was not easy for us – quite the opposite: DDownload has become more than just a project for our team over the years. Especially when you work together as a team on something you're passionate about.

We recommend that our affiliate partners switch to the Pay-Per-Sale model as soon as possible. Further improvements will be provided shortly.

We sincerely thank you for your long-standing loyalty and successful cooperation under the Pay-Per-Download model.

Display Error in the Payout System on 05.09.2022

06.09.2022

Dear affiliate users,

On September 5, 2022, a display error occurred in our system that affected payouts to Bitcoin wallets. Around 70% of the payouts were mistakenly sent to outdated and inactive wallets – many of which dated back to 2019 and no longer exist for many users.

We will be happy to provide you with the corresponding transaction number upon request as proof.

We want to emphasize that only Bitcoin wallets were affected by this incident – other payout methods were not impacted.

To prevent such issues in the future, we will now regularly verify and update the wallets on file.

The issue has since been resolved.

As this error incurred costs on our end, compensation for the payouts incorrectly marked as "Paid" will be processed in stages. We kindly ask all affected users to create a support ticket. This allows us to mark the payout as "In Progress" and update it to "Completed" once the payment has been made.

We thank you for your loyalty and understanding and continue to work diligently on further improvements.

Planned Emergency Maintenance: Core Router at Data Center AMS-01

02.11.2021

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve service quality, we would like to inform you about upcoming emergency maintenance scheduled for November 4, 2021.

During this process, we will resolve a high memory load issue on the backup routing engine of one of our core routers at the AMS-01 data center in the Netherlands.

When will the maintenance take place?

Date: November 4, 2021

Thank you for your understanding.

Changes to the Pay-Per-Download Compensation

18.02.2021

Dear users,

Due to excessive abuse of our free Pay-Per-Download program, we are unfortunately forced to switch to an exclusive Premium Pay-Per-Download model starting Friday, February 19, 2021.

This means that only downloads from premium users will be compensated in the future. Free downloads will no longer be rewarded. The reason for this is a significant increase in bot traffic, deliberately used by some affiliates to generate income. To offset the associated costs, this measure is unavoidable.

In addition, the Pay-Per-Sale model will be adjusted over the course of the coming week. From that point on, sales via VPN will be properly tracked and no longer flagged as fraud attempts. This increases your chances of earning fair and higher income through the Pay-Per-Sale model.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Minimum Payout Temporarily Increased to 50 EUR

17.02.2021

Due to the currently very high transaction fees on the Bitcoin network, the previous minimum payout of 10 EUR has been raised to 50 EUR. This is a temporary measure made necessary because approximately 90% of our payouts are processed through Bitcoin partners.

We work with larger payment networks to ensure efficient and reliable payouts. These involve transaction fees of 3 to 5 EUR each, in addition to the Bitcoin network fees, which we have often covered ourselves.

Due to the sharp increase in overall costs, we are forced to make this adjustment to avoid disproportionate burdens.

We appreciate your understanding and will inform you as soon as a return to the previous payout threshold is possible.

Speed Issues in December 2020

18.12.2020

Dear users,

The ongoing COVID-19 situation has presented us with major challenges this year. Back in March and April, there were significant network disruptions – and now again in December 2020 due to renewed lockdown measures in various countries.

To maintain the stability of our cluster, we have deliberately limited the maximum download speed per file. The goal is to ensure as even and reliable availability as possible for all users.

Some servers are still operating at their capacity limits, as an exceptionally high number of simultaneous access requests continue.

We appreciate your understanding and hope to continue counting you among our satisfied customers.

If you wish to request a refund due to the current limitations, you are welcome to open a support ticket through our system.

Maintenance Work on the NL2 Network

24.09.2020

Dear users,

On Monday, September 28, 2020, planned maintenance work will be carried out in the morning hours (Amsterdam local time, UTC+2) on our NL2 network.

During this period, there may be limited accessibility to the website or temporary outages.

Once the maintenance work is completed, the website will be fully accessible again as usual.

Thank you for your understanding.

Maintenance on the GLNL/2 Network

15.09.2020

On September 15, 2020, urgent and short-term maintenance will be carried out on the GLNL/2 network. Temporary service availability issues may occur during this time.

This primarily affects services in the UCDN network within the server range www500 to www550. There may be reduced download speeds or brief performance drops.

We will do our best to complete the maintenance quickly and with minimal disruption. Thank you for your understanding.

Switch to Euro Currency

16.07.2020

Dear ddownload users,

After careful economic consideration, a two-month trial phase, and internal coordination within the entire Unlimited Network Limited team, we have decided to switch our pricing structure from USD to Euro.

Why was this decision made?

The change is based on numerous feedbacks and inquiries regarding payment options, withdrawals, and for economic and infrastructural reasons.

Part of our infrastructure — currently about 40% — is historically more connected to Asian networks. Therefore, users in Europe, particularly in Germany, sometimes experience connection quality issues. Our service has existed for over four years and was originally developed and expanded in the Asian region. As recently as Q1 of last year, about 70% of our users were based in Asia. Accordingly, our investments were initially focused on that region.

However, with the significant increase in European users by the end of 2019, the picture changed drastically. The European user base grew by nearly 70%, requiring extensive infrastructure upgrades.

Even though we have been investing continuously since then, ddownload’s infrastructure is not yet fully optimized for European standards. To implement this expansion sustainably, the switch to the Euro was a necessary step. Due to the minor exchange rate differences between the Euro and US Dollar, the price changes are moderate.

This decision allows us to expand our infrastructure in a targeted way and offer you a reliable and high-performance service long-term.

What changes for payouts?

Your payouts will still be made in cryptocurrencies. Additionally, the currency switch means you benefit from a slight increase in your earnings. Current payout amounts already include a small bonus due to the conversion.

If you encounter technical issues such as server outages or download speed fluctuations, we recommend visiting our support center at support.ddownload.com before submitting a ticket. Most current technical incidents are communicated there.

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to ongoing successful cooperation.

Urgent Maintenance on the GLNL Network

27.06.2020

During calendar weeks 27 and 28, short-notice maintenance work will take place on the GLNL network. During this period, there may be occasional speed limitations.

We kindly ask users in Germany to avoid peak usage times during this phase and to be patient with any disruptions. For serious issues, please contact us using the known communication channels.

This maintenance is necessary to improve upload and download performance in the long term. We have received increased reports of upload issues that can be traced back to this network.

Please note that our GLNL network does not have direct contracts with Deutsche Telekom or other network operators in Germany. Therefore, occasional restrictions may occur. Users from other countries are not affected.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Planned Maintenance on the GLNL Network

18.06.2020

On Thursday, June 18, 2020, important maintenance work will be carried out on our storage server at the data center in Amsterdam (Netherlands).

During this process, some of the hardware will be replaced and upgraded to further improve the performance and stability of our services.

During the maintenance, there may be brief service interruptions. We expect downtimes of no more than about one hour. If any specific outages occur, we will inform you immediately.

Some services may be temporarily unavailable in the afternoon for approximately 1 to 2 hours.

Thank you for your understanding during this planned optimization work.

Notice Regarding the COVID-19 Situation

20.03.2020

As shown on our external support page, it is currently not possible to create or respond to support tickets. This is due to the state of emergency declared in Lithuania in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Home office work is currently not feasible for our support team, as all staff members in this area were temporarily working in Lithuania as guest workers. Due to the current regulations, they had to return to their home countries within one week.

Since our support infrastructure is fully tied to that location, we are currently unable to offer external support in the usual manner.

In urgent cases, you can still reach us via the contact form found in the Legal Notice.

We sincerely thank you for your understanding during this exceptional situation.

Connection Issues with CDN102 and CDN112

15.03.2020

Currently, servers www102 and www112 within our network are experiencing connection issues.

Our technical team is already working diligently on a solution to restore full accessibility as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Current Issues with Connection and Speed

08.03.2020

We are currently experiencing technical issues with our new network. Since only about 50% of the new hardware has been delivered, full deployment is delayed. The remaining components are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

As a temporary solution, the old network has been reactivated. This may cause connection issues for users in Germany. However, this is only a temporary measure until the new hardware becomes fully available.

We plan to launch the new network with expanded hardware later this week and will keep you updated on all progress.

Over the past few days, we have received a very high number of support requests. More than 80% of them were not strictly necessary. To ensure proper processing of all incoming tickets, our support system is currently in maintenance mode.

We sincerely thank you for your loyalty and understanding and apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Change of Service Provider

22.01.2020

To better meet the needs of our users, we have decided to change our service provider in the near future. In the coming weeks, we will begin setting up the first new servers. The goal is to significantly improve download speeds and ensure even more stable performance.

Why are download speeds currently slow?

This issue does not affect all users, only about a quarter of our premium users. The cause is the lack of connectivity to certain carrier networks in some countries or regions. A common example is Deutsche Telekom, whose peering network incurs significantly higher costs — up to eight times more compared to other providers.

Our current provider has opted not to use these expensive connections for economic reasons, which in some cases results in performance drops.

We are pleased to announce that a new provider has already been found who will resolve this issue in the future. The transition will be made step by step.

Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for any inconvenience during this transition period.

CDN59 – Connection Interruptions and Slow Load Times

20.01.2020

Server cdn59 is currently experiencing connection interruptions and technical issues. These are causing downloads to either start with delays or proceed at reduced speeds (between 20 and 50 kilobytes per second).

Our team is working hard to fully restore functionality as quickly as possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Bandwidth Testing – We Need Your Help

14.01.2020

To optimize our new server infrastructure, we kindly ask for your help in testing bandwidth. Feel free to share your download speeds in the comments, along with your testing location and your internet connection (bandwidth).

Initial findings from the tests:

Most measured download speeds are satisfactory. However, during weekdays (for 1–3 hours) and on weekends, there are noticeable performance drops from our internet provider.

The situation continues to be monitored closely. If no improvement is seen, we will consider switching to an alternative provider.

Thank you for your support and feedback!

Possible Temporary Accessibility Restrictions

15.12.2019

This week, we are planning maintenance work on our databases. To prevent any data loss, the website will be placed in maintenance mode for several hours during calendar week 51.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during these scheduled operations.

Additionally, an upgrade of the available network bandwidth per rack is planned for calendar week 51. The goal is to further optimize download speeds, especially during peak hours — and this time with no downtime.

Here’s to consistently fast connections — thank you for your continued support!

Paysafecard and PayPal as Direct Payment Methods

20.11.2019

In recent weeks, we have received many requests for additional payment methods. We are happy to report that these suggestions have been taken into account and incorporated into our development process.

Credit card payments have already been introduced as a direct payment method this week. Paysafecard and PayPal will follow shortly as additional direct options.

Exact fees are not yet finalized. However, we can already confirm that external resellers will no longer be necessary to use Paysafecard and PayPal. Official distribution partners will, of course, remain available.

We will continue to provide updates on progress. Thank you for your patience and trust.

Announcement: Planned Maintenance on DDL

27.10.2019
